Vale - Gordon Fredrick “Ben” Wearing

 

The Orange & District Football (Soccer) Association wishes to acknowledge the contribution to the Sport of Football made by Ben Wearing at the time of his passing on 30/09/2015.

Benny will be sadly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, including his many friends in the Orange Football Community.

 

Ben had a sporting background in Hockey, which he played with distinction in his younger days. But all in Football know him for his work with both the Orange District Football Association (ODFA)  & his many years with CYMS Senior Soccer Club.

 

Ben contributed to the Association with his years as the CYMS Seniors delegate to the Association Meetings & his 8 years of service , assisting Bernie & June Stedman in running the Association Canteen at Sir Jack Brabham Park.The money raised through this service in the Canteen assists in all aspects of Football in Orange to this day & will continue for many years to come.

 

The ODFA showed the esteem in which he was held, when in 2006, Ben was made a Life Member of the Orange & District Football Association for his many years of contribution to Football in the district.

 

Ben came to Football through his son Anthony playing with CYMS Senior Soccer Club. Ben was a member of CYMS from 1994 to 2003. He held the Position of Club President in 1999 & 2000. Before these official positions Ben was a passionate supporter of the teams his son played for. He was awarded Supporter of the year for 4 straight years from (1994 to 1997). In 2003 Ben was awarded the CYMS 10 Year Service Award.

 

Ben was well known for his passionate opinions on the Sport & was not backward with his comments about how he believed the teams & also the Referee had performed in a particular game. Benny was able to make his last game of Football only a couple of months ago, watching his beloved CYMS & son Anthony play a game at the JBP grounds where he has helped to provide the money for Facilities that will be enjoyed by players for many years to come.

 

The ODFA extends its sincere sympathy to Mrs Joan Wearing & son Anthony during this difficult time

  • Great article on the CWD on the 21st of July 2015, on the efforts of the Orange teams at the recent Kanga Cup in Canberra. By all accounts the boys played some great football, represented our town very well and came away with numerous awards.   • Congratulations to Bernie Stedman. The number 5 field at Sir Jack Brabham Park has been renamed "Bernie Stedman Field" in honour of Bernie's contribution to Orange Soccer. Read all about it in the Central Western Daily. (8 August 2013)
